When Joan Charles was five years old her family moved to Mars (Pennsylvania). When she was a bit older she visited Venus (Texas). Those were pretty much the highlights of her life until she graduated from art school and headed west to begin her career as an illustrator and graphic designer.
These days, Joan sticks close to home (though she hopes to see Jupiter, Florida some day). In addition to writing stories and drawing pictures for kids, Joan is an active member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
She lives in Southern California with her husband Kelly.
